Mani Monday – Essie Bahama Mama Matte
If anyone was to ask me my favourite Essie shade, it would have to be Bahama Mama. It was the first Essie shade I ever bought, and it has been my favourite go-to colour ever since. Angora Cardi came close, but this colour slightly trumps it.
I don’t know why, but there’s something about this deep red/purple/ plum shade that is perfect for autumn/ winter. It’s perfect for adding a touch of colour to a day outfit, and it complements an evening outfit thanks to it’s classy colour.
The formula is thick without being gloopy, it covers the nail perfectly in two coats and it lasts forever. I actually find, as my nails are quite thin in terms of width, that one coat covers the nail perfectly everytime. My thumb nail (due to it’s chodeness) takes about three to cover but we won’t talk about that…
To mix it up a bit, I decided to add the Essie Matte About You Top Coat as I love matte nails at the moment. The only (slight) negative with this, is that I usually apply my Seche Vite Professional Quick Dry Top Coat and I can move around within five minutes, the matte top coat takes at least 10 minutes to dry, and even then, I worry about smudging them.
The final result though? I love it. It makes it look SO professional when really you’re only sitting around for about 10 minutes. I wish I had longer nails at the moment (damn the weather turning them brittle and prone to breaking), but I think it’s the perfect winter colour.
